Taxi Driver Review

"Taxi Driver"

Starring Robert De Niro this film has true depth and a new meaning that Martin Scorsese has directed. The story is in the year 1976 of a young man with a very serious case of insomnia. The whole mind of Travis Bickle is very interesting almost like an artist, he keeps a visual journal that he narrates throughout the film. There are also a series of different questions that he asked himself like "Betsy ... Betsy what's her last name.
"Loneliness has followed me my whole life. Everywhere. In bars, in cars, sidewalks, stores, everywhere. There's no escape. I'm God's lonely man... June 8th. My life has taken another turn again. The days can go on with regularity over and over, one day indistinguishable from the next. A long continuous chain. Then suddenly, there is a change."

There are conflicts that crop up about Travis' marine background, like for example in the earlier part of the film he gets to know a woman called Betsy. They go out for a couple of times but, it then gets rough and this plays a big part to his head. He turns into a dark void and his journey becomes lost.
In his tormented mind and complete loneliness he has been influenced when a man want to kill his wife and her lover. This is when his downfall beings and his increased aggression to the city of New York.

"June twenty-ninth. I gotta get in shape. Too much sitting has ruined my body. Too much abuse has gone on for too long. From now on there will be 50 pushups each morning, 50 pullups. There will be no more pills, no more bad food, no more destroyers of my body. From now on will be total organization. Every muscle must be tight."

This film Shows so many twists and turns through your mind and you really feel sorry for Travis as he has changed throughout the whole film to a kind and decent man into a violent menace but however he manages to stay focused on his one goal and mission that was on his mind and is now cleared. Taxi Driver is one of my most favourite films and delivers a clear message to me, however the message may differ for different people.

Enjoy the Film

Session 2

Thursday 6th October 2011

Writing Styles

Writing styles are to involve a person looking to persuade or interest people into going to an event or to maybe consider going.

Todays lesson we had to read through two general audience articles.
The first article was information about Brunel's SS Great Britain, the whole concept of writing was very factual and it was really boring and doesn't involve the reader. The the style is very annoying as there is no paragraphs. This article also has irrelevant information at the start about prices "A open daily throughout the year,1 april 23 Oct.... admission £10.95 adult" isn't exactly what you want to read about until you've been interested. There is also informal text written at the end ""Pretty much a must-see, then" which is possibly the worst sign off to an article because it's the same as saying ; it was alright. The text really puts you off the whole event.

Abergavenny Food Festival
This article is very informal which is a review on how the food festival was at Abergavenny. There is no introduction to how the article starts ;its almost that the reader has just said how have I got here. The writing is very casual as if your friend was speaking to you like for example the words i have found "Bonkersness , foodistas, dog-on-a string" almost shows the person may have not cared for this article. There is also another quote thats very bad "some interesting clashes of culture" the word clashes is almost referencing people will be angry about it and shows a very harsh light, especially ending with this in the sentence.

I then went to a computer to look at another review about the St Pauls Carnival. This article is a preview of this great event and gets you very interested with it as a whole. They start with a great sentence "St Pauls Carnival is quite simply the jewel in Bristol" a great and visual introduction from the last two articles. It then says about the history and the development of how it's grown throughout the years. A very friendly style of writing that everyone can understand.

Session 1

Thursday 29th October 2011

The session today was the first, we first started with a brief introduction by Sam Brooks then we all had to introduce ourselves. This was very good as it very good to hear other people's stories, like for example a woman in the tutor group had already owned a business in ice cream and decided to go back to college because the packaging was very interesting to her; at this point i was really grateful she was a member of the same tutor group.
However we got a introduction towards the tutor booklet and outline of the year. I have to read more books to gain more knowledge of other artists and as instructed to leave the internet, as some links to artists could be misleading.
Making a bibliography of all websites that have references to my work. In regards to this I will go to library to look up more artists during my free time like for maybe a lunch break.
Making a C.V was the topic for today, making sure your selling yourself as best as you can. This is vital as a job applicant needs to give a great impression of how they need the job thats offered to the employer. The drive to get a possible job/career.
