Photograms

Photograms

During today's session I was told how to create a photogram. At the start of the lesson I was introduced to a piece of music was called " I'll be your mirror" by Velvet Underground.

As the song was playing I had to key out, or choose words or sentences to form an image. I had to key out, choose words or sentences to form an image. This I found very interesting as you could imagine this is how they would have to create a music video, or album cover of a debut song. This song in particular was depressing and was sung under emotion. However you got that feeling as there were lots of metaphors "the light on your front door to show that your home".

I eventually got a picture that i drew out on a piece of paper. The lyric that i chose was "when you think the night has seen your mind" I believed that it was a strong. I used a lot of different materials such as a cutting of paper which i created a star, some bubble wrap and had to re draw the image on to a sheet of plastic.

I used a sheet of a4 photosensitive paper. Then layered my work on top. Set the aperture to f4 and exposed it to the light for 18 seconds and managed to produce a finished piece.

During This process it was a bit difficult to get the right aperture with the test prints. The final image really made a huge impression on me and really surpassed my expectations. This definitely is a method i could later use into my graphics work.
